Depending on your situation, this is a form that children may not hear on a regular basis. As they learn Spanish they should be familiar with the word usted and understand it. Buenas noches, luna – Goodnight, Moon in Spanish

Many children know the English, so it is the perfect story for learning and reinforcing vocabulary in Spanish. Buenos días, buenas noches – a picture book in Spanish

This beautiful book by Michael Grejniee follows two children through their day using opposites. The vocabulary is practical and it is wonderfully supported by the illustrations. The meaning of each simple sentence is reinforced by the contrast to the opposite.

For example: Estoy adentro. (I’m inside.) The illustration shows the little girl playing in the house. Estoy afuera. (I’m outside.) The illustration shows the little boy playing in the yard.

Spanish Game for Children – ¿Dónde está el pájaro?

This is a guessing game and it is easy to adapt to different size groups and levels. To play this game children sit in a circle. One child who is going to guess stands apart and hides her eyes. The kids pass a toy bird around the circle while they sing and when the song ends whoever is holding the bird hides it.

Spanish song for children – Yo tengo una carita que parece una casita

This is a traditional Spanish song for children. It compares a face to a house. The song has simple actions and uses lots of common vocabulary. You can make up any actions so that kids point to the body parts when they are mentioned. The ones I teach are a lot like the actions in the second video below, but I include the nose as the timbre (doorbell).
