No iPhone? Have an iPod touch and MiFi
3 is to sell its MiFi Wi-Fi mobile hotspot gizmo bundled with an iPod touch, to let you Skype your mates wherever you are. Is this the cheapest “iPhone” ever?
A bunch of new iPhone vendors have popped out into the open recently, including Orange, Vodafone, and even Tesco, so Three’s obviously keen to get in on the action. It’s not selling the iPhone, but the next best thing: an iPod touch bundled with MiFi mobile Wi-Fi so you can get online with it wherever there’s 3G and dial your friends over Skype.
Naturally there are some downsides to this mashup: the MiFi needs to be charged, you get no GPS, and it’s only the 8GB iPod touch, not the 64GB. But hey, if you’re planning on getting MiFi anyway (and you should be), think of it as a free iPod touch instead.

Weight loss can be a challenging undertaking (even maintaining your weight can be tough when the holidays roll around). Make the most of your efforts with help from one of these five weight-management tools most valued by Lifehacker readers.
There's no magic bullet for fitness and weight loss—although most would argue "eat less, move more" is a excellent starting point. One pattern that is definitely prominent among the comments of Lifehacker readers in our call for contenders for this week's Hive Five, however, is that if there is a magic bullet for weight loss, it's tracking. Whether you're using a spreadsheet, a notebook, or some of the great web and mobile phone-based solutions you'll see below, the biggest element in our readers' weight-loss success has been tracking their food intake and exercise activity.

iPod touch 3.1.1 IPSW Supported by PwnageTool 3.1
“Because of changes with Apple’s update techniques (that complicate the 3GS upgrade process) this will be a multipart release,” the hackers wrote on their blog when making PwnageTool 3.1 available. “This release starts with PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac OS X – this application supports the iPhone 1st Generation (2G), the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 1G,” the Dev Team outlined, warning in capital letters that PwnageTool 3.1 did not support new-gen devices including the iPhone 3GS, the 2G iPod touch and, of course, the latest iPod touch (late 2009) introduced at this year’s iPod event.
As such, to jailbreak an iPod touch 1G (original iPod touch), users must download the appropriate iPod1,1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw file, use the PwnageTool to create a custom firmware image, and restore with that IPSW using iTunes.
iPod touch second- and third-generation users are currently locked out of PwnageTool 3.1, the team stresses on its blog. However, second-gen touch owners can still use Redsn0w for an earlier (pre 3.1) firmware release, should they have mistakenly updated their baseband.

The new iPod touch 3rd Generation!
It's available in three different configurations, with both the 32 GB and 64 GB sporting a faster processor and OpenGL ES 2.0 support.
We don't think anything changed on the 8 GB touch. The only thing we know for sure has changed is the price (it's now $199).
According to Phil Schiller, "$199 is the magic price point in the iPod world." However, it sure seems people don't mind paying more. Apple's already sold 20 million iPod touches, all for more than $199 each.
New Apple iPod Nano, Touch, Classic And Shuffle Announced
Last week we brought you the rumours surrounding the much anticipated Apple iPod event taglined “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it”, and today 09/09/09 we finally found out what what they were planning – and as it turns out we were half right!
Although the rock-and-roll quote and the fact that the date that coincided with the release of Beatles: Rock Band were red herrings, not only were the rumors about the camera true, but the additions to the iPod Touch and general software updates were also well predicted. So, with the Nano, Touch, Shuffle and Classic being changed here’s a quick overview of them all.
iPod Nano
So, first things first, the news you’ve all been waiting for: the iPod Nano now comes with an FM radio. Oh and it has a camera as well! However you may be surprised to know that despite the fact that the camera can record in 640×480 you cannot take still photos, and will have to use iMovie to extract any static images you want.

iPod Nano iPod Touch with Cameras
…. both the iPod nano and iPod touch will receive cameras. He believes the new iPod touch will have the same RAM and processor speed as the iPhone 3GS, and the new media player will sell in capacities of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB at prices of $199, $299 and $399, respectively. He also said that the hard drive-based iPod classic will remain, likely with a 160GB capacity for $249.
Gruber admitted that he has heard “very little” prior to Wednesday’s event in San Francisco, reaffirming reports that a veil of secrecy returned when co-founder Steve Jobs returned to work at Apple. And all of what he’s confirmed, including the addition of cameras to the iPod touch and iPod nano, was known months ago.

Prior to Apple’s “It’s Only Rock and Roll” event Apple’s online store went down and when it returned there were lower prices on all existing iPods, except for the shuffle.
* The iPod touch: 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB are now $189, $249, and $279 respectively.
* The iPod nano: 8GB and 16GB are now $129 and $149 respectively.
* The iPod classic is now $229.
This lends some credibility to reports from HardMac earlier this week saying that the iPod touch may be delayed.
Whether the new iPods are delayed or not, I’d wait to see what Apple announces at the event.
Apple slashes iPod prices up to $120 – Apple 2.0 – Fortune Brainstorm Tech.
