Mac Users Ready to Pay Up for Apple Tablet [Study]

http://mashable.com

The “how much will you pay for an Apple Tablet?” question might be a bit premature given the specifications or the launch date of the device are not yet confirmed.

Nonetheless, Retrevo has just published a study looking at the price points at which both Mac and PC users would be willing to pay for an Apple Tablet device.

Not surprisingly, the results show that existing Apple users are willing to go higher than PC users. How much higher? 68% of respondents indicate they’d be willing to pay more than $600 for the device, versus just 36% of PC owners stating the same.

It’s not surprising that Apple users are willing to pay more – after all, on average they have a higher household income and own more devices. However, it is interesting that they’re willing to pay so much, and indicative that Apple may be able to charge significantly more than most netbooks and the Amazon Kindle or Barnes & Noble Nook, devices that all seem to fit somewhere in between smartphones and desktop/notebook computers.

New Apple device could change the way we read newspapers, magazines and books

http://fuelingnewbusiness.com

It is imperative for agencies to stay on top of new communication devices and their impact upon our industry and clients. That said, you can simply follow Apple. They’ve set the standard and everyone else is playing catchup.

Apple has transformed the way we listen to (and purchase) music with the iPod and iTunes. It also changed the way we use our cellphones with the iPhone. Will it also transform how we read newspapers, magazines and books?

I was just reading this article in PCWorld “Apple Tablet: Did The New York Times Spill the Beans?“

The New York Times’ executive editor, Bill Keller, may have inadvertently confirmed the existence of the oft-rumored Apple Tablet in a private speech earlier this month. During the speech, Keller made a reference to the Times’ strategy for mobile devices. “We need to figure out the right journalistic product to deliver to mobile platforms and devices,” Keller said. “I’m hoping we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple slate, or whatever comes after that.”

iPod touch 3.1.1 IPSW Supported by PwnageTool 3.1

http://news.softpedia.com

“Because of changes with Apple’s update techniques (that complicate the 3GS upgrade process) this will be a multipart release,” the hackers wrote on their blog when making PwnageTool 3.1 available. “This release starts with PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac OS X – this application supports the iPhone 1st Generation (2G), the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 1G,” the Dev Team outlined, warning in capital letters that PwnageTool 3.1 did not support new-gen devices including the iPhone 3GS, the 2G iPod touch and, of course, the latest iPod touch (late 2009) introduced at this year’s iPod event.

As such, to jailbreak an iPod touch 1G (original iPod touch), users must download the appropriate iPod1,1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw file, use the PwnageTool to create a custom firmware image, and restore with that IPSW using iTunes.

iPod touch second- and third-generation users are currently locked out of PwnageTool 3.1, the team stresses on its blog. However, second-gen touch owners can still use Redsn0w for an earlier (pre 3.1) firmware release, should they have mistakenly updated their baseband.

New Jailbreaking Tool Available for Some iPhone

http://iphone.click2creation.com

The iPhone hacking faithful can now unlock and jailbreak their original iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 1G devices with the much-awaited PwnageTool 3.1. Unfortunately, the hacking tool does not yet support the iPhone 3GS or the new iPod Touch, but an update is expected soon.
Arriving only a week after Apple released the 3.1 software update for the iPhone and iPod Touch, DevTeam has set free Pwnage Tool 3.1. The software allows you to create and install custom firmware packages to jailbreak your Apple device and also use SIM cards from carriers other than AT&T (or the original carrier you purchased your iPhone from).

Pwnage Tool 3.1 is only available to users of the original iPhone , the iPhone 3G, the first-generation iPod Touch. The DevTeam says on their page that Apple is making it increasingly difficult to hack the iPhone 3GS and the second-gen iPod Touch with each new firmware update the company is launching.
