A significant majority of BlackBerry owners don’t think the company’s new Torch handset will be successful, and cite the number of apps available on other platforms, such as iPhone and Google Android, as a weakness. More than a third, 37 per cent, of BlackBerry users also don’t recognize ‘Research In Motion’, the name of the company that manufactures the devices. The study of BlackBerry owners spoke to 1,024 users: when they were shown details of the new BlackBerry Torch, 54 per cent felt it was “too similar” to previous handsets. Two thirds agreed it would fail to be as popular as the iPhone 4. Of those, 83 per cent claimed that “better apps” were needed to bring Research in Motion handsets up to the standards of the iPhone. However, nearly three quarters, 74 per cent, added that they dislike touch screen handsets. Two thirds of these said the QWERTY keyboard was one of the things that had originally attracted them to their BlackBerry. The second most popular feature attracting mobile users to BlackBerry handsets was email ability. More than four in five respondents also said they thought BlackBerry’s rumoured iPad rival

JailbreakMe Exploits Serious iPhone Security Flaw
JailbreakMe makes the process of jailbreaking the Apple iPhone much simpler and less intimidating. Just visit a Web site on the iPhone, and voila! Jailbroken iPhone. Think about that for a minute, though. The simple act of visiting a Web site is able to fundamentally alter the core functionality of iOS. Since the dawn of the iPhone, hackers have developed various tools and processes to enable users to circumvent the controls and restrictions put in place by Apple. In the wake of the United States Copyright Office ruling that jailbreaking the iPhone is technically legal--at least from a copyright and DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) perspective--having a tool that can accomplish it simply by visiting a Web site is awesome for less technically savvy iPhone owners. However, if JailbreakMe is capable of unlocking the iPhone operating system by taking advantage of a flaw in the way the iPhone renders Adobe PDF files, then other applications can also exploit that same flaw for less-benevolent goals. What JailbreakMe illustrates is that the iPhone has a serious security issue that Apple needs to address. For companies that allow the iPhone to connect with network resources

'JailbreakMe' on iPhone 4 may leave security hole
JailbreakMe' if used on your iPhone 4 may leave a security hole. If 'JailbreakMe' is used to jailbreak your iPhone 4, it could enable programmers to get a hold of your iPhone's contact and other information. It is done through the PDS exploit. intomobile.com reports a plug-in is being created called 'PDF Loading Warner' to tackle the security risk. It will be released in a few days. If you have used 'JailbreakMe' on your iPhone 4, the 'PDF Loading Warner' will display a PDF Warner message when you come upon a website where the PDF is not supposed to load. You can click on the cancel button it will display to block the PDF from loading. Even though jailbreaking and rooting are legal just remember it will void your warranty if you do it. Having someone use 'JailbreakMe' to jailbreak your iPhone 4 will cost money as well. Protect your information, don't use 'JailbreakMe' to jailbreak your iPhone 4! . There are a lot of iPhone 4 lovers in San Francisco and most have said they would never use 'JailbreakMe' when there is a chance of a security hole. Most would agree!

iPhone 4 jailbreak unlocks FaceTime via 3G and a malicious exploit
News of a successful and easy-to-apply jailbreak for the iPhone 4 and other iOS devices lit up the Internet, followed quickly by news of patches for broken functionality, FaceTime calling over 3G, and a malicious exploit with an opponent named Warner. Kicking things off was the launch of JailbreakMe.com (via Engadget), a website that jailbreaks (unlocks root access) to your iDevice up to the iPhone 4 running the latest version of iOS. I don’t know exactly how it works, but it all happens through the Safari web browser, which means exploiting a security flaw to initiate the process. You do risk bricking your iDevice and/or voiding your warranty with a jailbreak, not to mention leaving your device vulnerable if you don’t change the root password. There’s no longer a law against jailbreaking your iPhone, but that doesn’t eliminate all the risks involved. If all that raises a red flag for you, good. I really don’t advocate any hacking that’s beyond your ability to understand, so just make sure you’re cool with everything good and bad before taking the plunge. On the good side of things, jailbreaking your iPhone 4 enables FaceTime calls over 3G using an app called My3G.

Web-Based iOS 4 Jailbreaking Tool Exposes Security Vulnerability
A few days ago, a new web-based iOS 4 jailbreaking tool properly called “JailbreakMe” was released. The tool quickly became popular and was praised for its innovation and simplicity. However, JailbreakMe is making headlines once again for a totally different reason. Turns out that the JailbreakMe utilizes a security vulnerability in iOS to be able to do its duty. However, concerns have been raised that malicious individuals could exploit the same security vulnerability to deliver malware attacks on any of the iOS-based devices such as iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads. The security hole is found on the iOS PDF viewer. Specially-crafted fonts are embedded into a PDF document. Processing the embedded font causes a stack overflow, which will allow the program to easily bypass the iOS security. Thereby allowing hackers to take full control of the device. The rest, as they say, is history. JailbreakMe itself is currently a benign tool. However, we can’t say the same about the many hackers lurking through the dark alleys of the Internet searching for unsuspecting victims. The JailbreakMe tool could potentially be reverse-engineered to pull off their malevolent plans.
