The Iraqi journalist who threw shoes at then-President George W. Bush was convicted Thursday of assaulting a foreign leader and sentenced to three years in prison, lawyers said. He defiantly shouted "long live Iraq" when the sentence was read. Muntadhar al-Zeidi's bold act in December electrified many across the Middle East who consider him a hero for expressing his anger at a president who is widely disliked for his decision to invade Iraq in 2003.

FBI searches Kundra's former offices as new federal CIO rallies IT troops

FBI searches office of Obama tech pick

Federal agents Thursday morning raided the former offices of President Barack Obama's pick for federal chief information officer and have arrested a D.C. employee and another man in connection with a corruption investigation. FBI spokeswoman Lindsay Godwin confirmed that Yusuf Acar, an employee in the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), and Sushil Bansal, the chief executive officer of a D.C.-based information technology consulting company, have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation.

FBI searches DC government office, arrests 2

FBI agents have arrested a District of Columbia government worker and another man while they search the offices of the city's chief technology officer. The head of that city office, Vivek Kundra, recently left to take a White House technology post. A law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity because charges had not yet been unsealed, said worker Yusuf Acar was arrested Thursday. Another man, Sushil Bansal, was also arrested. A court appearance is expected later in the day.

Ross Douthat Tapped by 'NYT' for Kristol's Spot

Ross Douthat, 29, a senior editor and conservative blogger for The Atlantic magazine, has been hired by The New York Times to write a regular column online and then fill the weekly Op-ed slot occupied by William Kristol during 2008. A New York Times spokeswoman confirmed the hiring to E&P this afternoon.
