Video: Google Wonder Wheel, the timeline, and other new google search options

http://blog.gadgetlite.com

We posted Google’s latest announcement of new features to its search engine yesterday. It may seems complicated. One of the other cool things that Google has released with Search Options is Wonder Wheel, which is a visual representation of Google search results that you can’t miss - the text is rendered in classic multi-colored Google fashion. Wonder Wheel places your search topic inside of a light blue circle and places related terms around it. Search results still appear to the right of the Wonder Wheel. Google has also included Timeline in this update, another visualization of search results based on the date of the content.

Give Away More Info On Google’s SERPs

http://www.search-internetmarketing.com

Today at Google’s Searchology event, the company announced (among other things) that it was rolling out richer snippets. The snippets will extract and show more useful info from results than the current ones, Google says. "For example, if you are thinking of trying out a new restaurant and are searching for reviews, rich snippets could include things like the average review score, the number of reviews, and the restaurant’s price range," says a joint post to the Google Blog from Marissa Mayer and Jack Menzel. They explain that Google can do not this on their own. It us up to webmasters to contribute to this. "We hope that web publishers will help us by adopting microformats and RDFa standards to mark up their HTML and bring this structured data to the surface," they say. "This will help people better understand the information you have on your page so they can spend more time there and less on Google."

Google Drilling Deeper For More Accurate Results?

http://e-bizreview.com

Google Inc. Is getting ready to add more features to its already dominant Web search engine - and some of the changes could give web browsers less reason to click thru to other sites. That eventuality might upset the creators of the material highlighted in Google’s results.
For example, one of Google’s new tools will assemble the work of other sites into a spreadsheet-style format. Unlike Google’s standard search results, the spreadsheet experiment, called “Google Squared,” does not simply show a group of Web links related to a search request. Instead, it fishes thru Google’s huge database to organize important facts and other content in rows and columns.
In a Tues. demonstration that was webcast, Google showed how a search request made about tiny dogs thru the Squared tool will display footage next to extensive outlines about different breeds, on Google’s own site. The content was brought in from other Web destinations.

Matt Cutts on Overlooked Items from Searchology

http://www.arisyulianta.com

Google's Matt Cutts pulled some other interesting things from the event that some may have overlooked amidst the whirlwind of Google news. "I noticed several tidbits that I don't think we've ever said in public before," says Cutts. First he mentions Google's internal code names for spell-check features. These include the normal "Did you mean:" spell check link at the top of the results, but also the mid-page suggestions
