Similarly, as a U.S. Senator, Vitter may find that he has few friends in Congress for he has been pushing an issue that is not popular with his colleagues. Vitter wants to end the automatic pay increases for members of Congress. Yesterday, his courageous proposal was defeated 52-45 on a mostly party line vote. Vitter wanted to include the measure in the omnibus spending bill, but Democrats did not want to make any changes in the bill and claimed to schedule a "stand alone" vote. Sadly, Senate Democrats voted for greed over the interests of their constituents.
