'The Biggest Loser' bits: Jillian's shoes, Kai's big mouth and tonight's show

http://www.phillyburbs.com

Shrewd businessperson that she is -- except for that whole diet pill dust-up -- "Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels continues to find ways to expand her brand. She signed an endorsement deal with K-Swiss shoes on Monday. (That's not very exciting news, is it?) Jillian got a lot more publicity for canoodling with actress Vanessa Marcil on a dance floor a couple weeks ago (remember: Jillian has admitted she swings both ways), but apparently they're just best friends. Too bad. Moving on, it seems that former "Biggest Loser" finalist Kai Hibbard continues to spout off about how horrible the show is and how unhealthy it made her. Does butter raise insulin and make you fat? The low-carb experts respond to this claim

http://www.examiner.com

One of the attractions of a healthy low-carb diet for many people is the ability to consume butter again. For years we’ve been told by groups like the American Heart Association that saturated fats like butter will raise your cholesterol (which is true–HDL “good” cholesterol goes WAY UP when you consume butter!) and that we should be choosing “better” alternatives like margarine and olive oil instead. We’ve all heard the heart health argument, but recently a cardiologist blogger in the low-carb community brought up a rather intriguing theory that perhaps the reason some low-carbers begin to struggle on their low-carb lifestyle is because of what he describes as “butter’s unusual ability to provoke insulin responses.” glycemic index diet meal plan glycemic index weight loss plan glycemic index diet menu glycemic index lose weight glycemic index diets glycemic index weight watchers glycemic index diet food glycemic index weight loss glycemic index diabetic diet iphone diet ipad diet

Good nutrition a valuable tool in fighting cancer

http://timestranscript.canadaeast.com

In the book Foods that Fight Cancer, the authors (Richard Beliveau, PhD and Denis Gingras, PhD)) state that, in North America today, there are 10 million people living with cancer a staggering number by anyone's measure. When you consider the causes of cancer, as Beliveau and Gingras point out, only a minority of them (about 15 per cent) are due to hereditary factors. In addition to our genetic makeup, other risk factors that are responsible for 40 per cent of cancers include: pollution, drugs, UV ray exposure, obesity and lack of exercise, alcohol workplace-related exposure, and infection. So, what are the remaining risk factors? A staggering 30 per cent are attributable to smoking and the remaining 30 per cent are attributable to poor dietary habits. Think about this: if a person does not smoke and eats healthily, they have effectively cut their risk of cancer by a staggering 60 per cent. This is great news. glycemic index diet meal plan glycemic index weight loss plan glycemic index diet menu glycemic index lose weight glycemic index diets glycemic index weight watchers glycemic index diet food glycemic index weight loss glycemic index diabetic diet iphone diet ipad diet

High-Glycemic Foods Can Increase Heart Disease in Women

http://www.healthnews.com

As if we didn’t already know that cake, cookies, and white bread are not the healthiest options for us to eat, a new study suggests that women’s hearts would be better off on a lower-carbohydrate, low-glycemic index diet. While the occasional slice of pie or dinner roll isn’t going to induce heart disease, limiting those refined carbs and sweet treats could help stave it off and help us live a longer, healthier life. An Italian research team, led by Sabina Sieri, Ph.D., surveyed 47,749 Italian adults for their dietary habits and followed them for an average of 7.9 years. During that time, 463 participants developed coronary heart disease. The researchers found the 25 percent of women who consumed the highest glycemic load were at 2.25 times greater risk for heart disease compared with the 25 percent eating the lowest glycemic load. glycemic index diet meal plan glycemic index weight loss plan glycemic index diet menu glycemic index lose weight glycemic index diets glycemic index weight watchers glycemic index diet food glycemic index weight loss glycemic index diabetic diet iphone diet ipad diet
