A large picture atop the desk at the Bikram Yoga Sidney by the Sea studio proves it. The picture shows her face — the mug of a contortionist literally bent over backwards — peering out between her own thighs. It’s the Full Camel Pose explains Ripley, the silver finalist for the 2009 International Yoga Asana Championships. It’s a pose she only does specifically for competition. The term yoga competition sounds like an oxymoron — often the first thing people point out when they discover Ripley competes. It’s not really a contradiction in terms, she explains, sitting cross-legged in the still-warm studio; there have been yoga competitions in India for centuries. Though, she wasn’t convinced immediately, and spent the first year teaching and sharing.
